![]() ![]() ![]() Lost at Sea follows Raleigh, a shy and introverted 18-year-old Canadian high school student stranded in California while meeting a guy she met online. Either way, the coming-of-age story arc is a relatable testament to the good aspects of the picture and is a motif deeply rooted in its graphic novel predecessor, Lost at Sea. ![]() Whether those lessons stuck with him is still up for debate because even after beating Gideon Graves and running off with Ramona Flowers, he doesn't defeat "Nega Scott" and instead opts to get brunch with him later. As a result, it isn't until Scott learns something from his mistakes and gains some self-respect that he can overcome his limitations and atone for the wrongs he committed to his friends and ex, Knives Chau. Its shout-outs to the music floating around Toronto at the time and the nerdy Easter eggs that speak to geek culture developed the "cult following" that doesn't seem to let this film and its characters go, especially with the inclusion of a narrative predominantly focused on growth. However, despite Scott Pilgrim's problems, the way it communicates the essence of the era through an imaginative and bizarre video game and comic-fueled lens makes the movie work. ![]()
